The CB Labs Process

A CB Labs representative will come to your site, take an appropriate sample, and seal the batch. Back at the lab, we will run all of the state required tests, keeping you informed along the way. Then, we'll report the results to you and the BCC so you can sell you product confidently. In most cases, we can accommodate same day pick-up and a 48-hour turn around time.

Per state requirements our compliance test results are binding. Results outside accepted limits need to be remediated or destroyed.  And you can count on CB Labs to help you determine the best path forward if you do not pass your compliance test.

CB Labs quantifies potency content for 14 essential cannabinoids using High Performance Liquid Chromatography and multi-wavelength spectral detection: CBDV, CBDVA, THCV, CBD, CBG, CBDA, CBGA, CBN, THCD9, THCD8, CBC, CBNA, THCA, CBCA. For our COA results we will provide results for THCA, THCD9, CBD, CBDA, CBN, CBG in mg/g as well as percentages for each product’s cannabinoid content.


CB Labs uses Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry with Head-Space sampling (GC-MS) to test for 23 commonly found terpenes in cannabis, which include: Alpha Pinene, Camphene, Ocimene 1, beta Myrcene, beta Pinene, 3- Carene, (+) -4- carene, D-Limonene, p-Cymene, Ocimene-2, Eucalyptol, gamma Terpinene, Terpinolene, Linalool, Isopulegol, Geraniol, Caryphyllene, Caryophyllene Oxide, Humulene, Nerolidol 1, Nerolidol 2, Guaiol, and alpha Bisabolol. Results are reported in mg/g and total percentage.


CB Labs uses the 6500+ LC-MS/MS system from AB SCIEX to test for 66 pesticides per CA BCC regulations.

CB Labs uses Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry with HeadSpace sampling (GC-MS) to test cannabis products for 20 commonly found Residual Solvents including n-Butane, ether, and ethyl acetate; and assess whether the product meets or fails to comply with current CA BCC regulations and to insure all products fall under the Tolerable Daily Intake”  set by the International Program on Chemical Safety.


Using the latest qPCR technology from PathogenDX, CB Labs tests for Shiga toxin-producing E. Coli, Salmonella spp., and the pathogenic Aspergillus species A. fumigatus, A. flavus, A. niger, and A. terreus.  Results (Pass/Not Pass) are based on CA BCC and FDA guidelines.  In addition, we test or Yeasts & Mold Counts, Total Coliform Counts, Enterobacteriaceae (E. Coli). Results (PASS/NOT PASS) are based on the AHPA and other industry specific guidelines.


CB Labs utilizes a high powered Microwave Digestion system from CEM Corporation called the MARS6 coupled with an Atomic Analyzer from Persee Analytics to test for 4 Heavy Metals in cannabis products: Lead, Arsenic, Cadmium, and Mercury.  Our powerful combination of instruments allows us to accurately measure the levels of these harmful heavy metals down to parts per trillion, which is several orders of magnitude lower than current regulations.  Results are generated in compliance with CA BCC Regulations.



CB Labs analyzes 5 mycotoxins using Electro Spray Ionization LC-MS/MS: Ochratoxin A, Aflatoxin B1, B2, G1, G2.  Cannabis products are tested to see whether they meet or exceed CA BCC action levels.  


CB Labs uses a Rotronic Hygrolab water activity meter to detect environments within cannabis (below 0.65aw) that would be suitable for Yeast, Mold and Bacteria Growth.


CB Labs conducts a thorough visual inspection for Mammal hair, insect matter, dirt, glass and mold using a Vanguard Binocular Stereo Zoom (Non Illuminated) Microscope Features Professional Level Precision Optics Zoom Magnification (6.5:1) to identify foreign material.
